I learned a lot about the history, literature, and culture of Spain. The course I took was great because it was a small class and I felt I got the attention I needed to learn and be successful in practicing my Spanish. I learned to step out of my comfort-zone and not be afraid to trying new things/foods I'm not used to. I loved staying with a host family because they really made me feel at home. The food was great, my host mom was a great cook and often asked what my favorite foods were so she could prepare them more often. I was sad to leave my host family because I had gotten to know them really well. I still keep in touch with my host mom. I also REALLY LOVED all of the cultural activities. The Arab baths, and Flamenco show were my absolute favorite. Horse-back riding, the trip to the Spanish mountains, and the food tasting were also really great! When we had free time on the weekends, we planned trips to Madrid, Sevilla, Cordoba, and Malaga, all great and beautiful cities in Spain. The director in Spain, Herman, was great because he helped us book the hotels, get our bus tickets, and gave us advice on how to travel on our own. He was always willing to work around our schedules and you could tell he really loved his job. Lastly, the US staff and directors, were great in helping prepare me for the trip. They were always ready to answer questions if I had them or give me advice on what to pack, etc. They made the process of studying abroad really easy and manageable and I am so thankful to the SOL staff for that. SOL was also very affordable in comparison to lot of the other programs I considered. Overall, I had a great experience with SOL. It was worth every penny and I will recommend this program to anyone who is considering studying abroad.

After a while I felt comfortable walking around in the city alone and exploring, I even had favorite spot in the city to eat and relax. I love paella now. I was able to try foods different from home, even though I live in a spanish speaking household. There were some foods that did not sit well with me, but for the most part everything was good. I had a roommate from the states and a host family. Everyone was nice, but I enjoy having space to myself sometimes and I thought it was going to be me and the host family. However, it turned out better than I expected because I had another person going through the same living experience that I was! As for SOL - German was super responsive to any concerns I had regarding my academics or more places to go around the city! A.K.A cheap and fun! SOL was the most affordable and had so much to offer! A tip I would have is to talk to your host family in the native language. They know you are not fluent and that you are there to learn so practice with them. Especially during dinner! Talk to your other friends or people you meet in your program in the native language regardless if they respond in english, you are there to better your skills!

Wow! I cannot believe that I went to Costa Rica. I can see why it is the happiest place on earth. The people are so nice and the country is so beautiful. My Spanish has definitely improved since I arrived here. I am glad that I got to experience a culture different from my own. The staff for SOL have been nothing but encouraging and fun the whole time I have been here. I have a new found confidence that will serve me well throughout my life. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Sol Education Abroad is a wonderful company! I really enjoyed my directors in Costa Rica. They were very knowledgeable about the area and what types of things there were to do. They also were very helpful with any questions I had.

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries ever. I definitely would recommend to anyone who loves nature and relaxing.

I learned a lot in my courses. My grammar became much better, and I also learned a ton about the culture. In the history/culture course, we went to museums every week, and the professor was really passionate about what he does. I enjoyed my classes overall!

My most memorable experience was finally seeing a sea turtle. In July, they start nesting in the northern part of Limon (the Caribbean side of Costa Rica). My friends and I went on a excursion there, and we were able to see the turtle burying its eggs on the beach. I never knew how big they were. It was the highlight of my trip.

We definitely had many opportunities to volunteer and interact with the locals. We played soccer with ticos and we have played games with kids. I planted a tree at the University in Costa Rica.

Sol is perfect for anyone who is looking to explore a Spanish-speaking country as well as make new friends along the way. I highly recommend it!

SOL was the most life-changing 6 weeks of my life! It has helped me love Spanish so much more! It's the best study abroad program I could find and it proved to be true! I wouldn't have wanted to spend my summer doing anything other than studying Spanish in Heredia with SOL!
