The host families are really kind And always helpt you. Besodemieterd they take the time to explain And teach the culture. They also give good tips what to visit and take you to diverse cultural activities such as ceremonies if you like. The projects are very flexible, If you don't like a project you can switch really easy if you like, due to the good work and contacts of the host Micheal! A special experience with great service!

I volunteered in a hospital in Kathmandu. During my two month stay I was able to see many areas of Nepal through RCDP. Each of the excursions were well planned and very fun. I stayed in the hostel and enjoyed that there were constantly new volunteers coming and going. Everyone who works in RCDP and the hostel are friendly, kind, and caring. If I ever had a problem there were a multitude of people to go to. My project was working in a small private hospital down the street. I learned a great deal about culture and healthcare through this experience. I do wish that the program had more direction or hands on opportunities, as I am qualified as a nurse. I felt many times that while the hospital was extremely valuable for me, I was not contributing much. All in all I absolutely loved my stay in Nepal and loved being able o chat with everyone at RCDP if I ever had a question about culture, religion or politics. They were all wonderful and I gained a lot from this experience.
I volunteered for one week at the hospital and stayed at the volunteer hostel in Kalanki Mandir, Kathmandu. The hostel consists of two rooms (four beds in one and five beds in the other, one bathroom each room) in which volunteers stay. It's safe to leave your luggage, passport, ect. in the room.
Volunteering at the hospital mostly consists of shadowing.
The pollution in Kathmandu is challenging. Just giving a heads up.
I volunteered at a school for a few days at a school, and I would recommend that if you enjoy children.
The staff in the hostel are very kind and supportive.
The people of the program were very friendly and I felt very welcomed. Very close to many attractions in Kathmandu, and such. My program was the hospital and it was mostly a shadowing experience. You could walk in and observe the ICU and ER, or just observe surgeries in the afternoon. Was a great experience, I recommend it.
This was my second time volunteering in Nepal through RCDP. I previously volunteered in an orphanage in Kathmandu and wanted to return to volunteer in a hospital. I spent one week at a nearby hospital at which I mostly shadowed doctors and nurses. It was an interesting look into the healthcare system of a country other than my own. It is not interactive but you have the opportunity to talk with doctors and visit all parts of the hospital. Staying at the hostel is nice, and you have all meals prepared for you daily. Volunteering through this organization has been a nice way to learn about the culture of Nepal and meet fellow travelers!
