Language House TEFL - Prague

If I could give someone wanting to teach abroad one piece of advice, it would be to start your journey with TLH in Prague. Without a doubt, I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to take a break from the average and embark on a career teaching English abroad. The month was intensive and at times challenging, but when the month was over I felt more than prepared to take on the TEFL job market. Not only does the Language House prepare you to teach abroad, their staff makes sure that you have all of the tools needed to live and work in the Czech Republic. The staff leaves no questions unanswered and works tirelessly to ensure that they meet whatever needs you might have.

Language House TEFL - Prague

I received my TEFL certification through The Language House and could not be happier with my decision. The course provided me with the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to be an effective English teacher. The instructors were there to support me every step of the way and remain a valuable resource even after completion of the program. I should also mention The Language House provides hours of hands on teaching experience during the course. I would strongly recommend The Language House to anyone considering teaching abroad.

Language House TEFL - Prague

I joined the The Language House’s TEFL program March this year, and it is one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Now that I'm six months in, living and working happily in Prague, I really have The Language House to thank for. Chris Westergaard and all of the trainers really care a lot about their trainees, and the amount of work that you put into it really pays off. I highly recommend doing your TEFL certification here - safe to say you'll be in good hands. :)

This company is shady.
Red flag 1 - website had false information about the work visa
Red flag 2 - the owner said I could break the contract (leave the school early) and it wouldn't be a problem. What kind of a business suggests that?
Shady all around.

Frontier

I volunteered in Fiji for 6 weeks and it was the best thing I've done. Prior to my journey, Frontier were helpful and efficient in answering any queries I had via email. They also held a briefing weekend which gave me a further opportunity to ask any questions, find out how to prepare for my project, and meet other volunteers. Overall, I was really impressed with the way Frontier helped to make me feel prepared for my project their quick responses to my emails. I also had various emails from the Project Coordinator who was in Fiji at the time, who explained what would happen when I arrived in the country. This made me feel at ease as I knew who I was meeting and where. The online area was also a great way to view and share important documents or information.

From the moment I arrived in Fiji, the Frontier Staff (particularly the Project Coordinator) made me feel at ease. The homestay was pretty basic, but I loved it like I loved my own home. Every evening we would come home to a home-made meal, from chicken noodle soup to vegetable curry. The Frontier volunteers had their own area, and there was also a shared communal area – The Mango Bar - which brought the volunteers and family together. The home stay family were so welcoming and staying with them was one of my highlights of being in Fiji.

My project coordinator was amazing – friendly, informative and hilarious. She would always be there to answer any questions or concerns I had, and would always do what she could to make me feel at home. She knew Fiji so well and, although she’d only been there for the same time as me, she always gave advice on the best places to visit. If I had any issues I would never hesitate to let her know, and I know she would always provide a fair solution.

The other volunteers were fantastic and we got on really well. The children at my school were amazing and so grateful to have you there. The project gives you so much freedom to teach, you have plenty of teaching time and can pretty much plan whatever you please. I got the opportunity to each at least 2-3 hours a day.

I can’t stress how much I loved my time in Fiji. I would definitely recommend this project for any budding teachers!

Global Vision International (GVI)

Going abroad to LPB in Laos was a great experience and I really enjoyed being able to get to know the people and the culture of southeast Asia.

I would recommend going for at at least a month to get the full experience, and in order to give the people you are interacting with a better chance at getting to know you. Also, I would plan to allot more money than you think you need initially since you will want to travel while there. Also, it is nice to be in Laos not during the heavy tourist season.

Overall it was a fantastic experience and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about the way of life over there. However it is a bit of a culture shock so going into it I would say that you should keep an open mind and be patient. Definitely a worth while experience. Also the program that I did had to do with teaching English and the teaching is very legitimate and important, so if you don't think you would like actually teaching a class I would pick a different program.

Give a Heart To Africa

This is a review of my three weeks volunteering with Give Your Heart To Africa [GHTA] in Moshi Tanzania.

It was an excellent volunteer experience from the beginning to end. I was met at the Kilimanjaro Airport by the founder and coordinator Monika Fox. The 10 month program itself is for women wanting further education in order to set up a business and become independent. The program has three aspects - English, Vocational Training and Business. It is very well organized with excellent teaching/learning resources. I was involved in teaching English. The woman are enthusiastic, hard working and a joy to teach.

The classes are taught on-site in the mornings from Monday to Thursday. The accommodation for the six volunteers is good and secure. In terms of meals - volunteers are responsible for preparing breakfast and lunch while dinner is prepared every evening.

Overall the founder and coordinator, Monika Fox ensures a well organized and smooth running non-profit volunteer experience.
I would highly recommend GHTA as a meaningful and excellent volunteer experience in Tanzania

Island TEFL Thailand

I signed up for Philip's Program R in Bangkok for October 2014 around April or May the same year, when I was planning to quit my job and see my long distance girlfriend for our year anniversary together. The program consisted of an online, 8 lesson course for $499 and the on-site course for $795. After initial contact through email, he invoiced me only for the October course of $795. When I asked if, that if in the case of not being able to show up in October, could I just do the online course first, to which he ignored me, and I caved and payed him the $795. After which I started taking the online lessons, which were more than textbook like and not at all worth $499. They featured one long-as-hell articles followed by 3 or 4 review questions and very uninteresting videos made from a possible Walmart camera. After about three weeks and having completed two of the online lessons, I lost my job early due to company downsizing, and was no longer able to visit my long distance girlfriend for our first year anniversary together. Then when I asked for a refund, his response was very dry, simply saying it's against his "terms of agreement" even though the course didn't start for another four months. After which, I tried to get my $795 back by making a claim on PayPal, which I lost. Afterwards he sent me a threatening letter, demanding another $499 for the online textbook "course", claiming that his "Lawyer" would get my passport number from my drivers license picture and I would be in for a "surprise" when I come to visit my girlfriend. I cancelled payment and he replied again shortly, stating that his Lawyer would make sure I get detained at the airport, and "Hope you enjoy life behind bars!", "Other than KY, if there's anything else I can bring you please let me know!" And he forgot the comma after "you"; some TEFL manager. I also heard his real last name is Crabbe, like the greedy bastard from Spongebob Squarepants. Also a possible rape suspect in Koh Samui!? It's no wonder the mafia there put a hit on him and he had to escape on a fucking rowboat. Can someone please do us all a favor and just rid this fucking space occupier from our planet?

IBERO TEFL and Spanish course

This is the best TEFL and Spanish combination program I could find. I could not be happier. The school is very friendly and the program is great. I got a full time job as an English Teacher through Florencia and I am now currently working in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is a dream come true! My 3 week Spanish lessons were great with Federico, who is both fun and funny and made grammar super easy to me. Now, the castellano is not a problem!
Thank you all at Ibero for a great experience!
