I spent 14 weeks in total studying with LTL (6 weeks in Beijing, 6 weeks in Shanghai and 2 weeks in Chengde) in the summer of 2015.

I was working and studied 6 hours in the evening, and also stayed in a homestay in Beijing. I finished by 2 weeks intensive learning in Chengde.

The whole experience with LTL, from beginning to end was excellent.

Alexander helped guide me through the process, organised the one-on-one teachers for me - as well as providing me with a fantastic homestay family in Beijing.

The Chengde experience was also something else - pure immersion, which really helped my Chinese move up a notch.

I would recommend LTL in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengde to anyone.

I spent 3 weeks with LTL over the summer this year and it was one of the highlights of my summer. I spent 2 weeks at LTL's school in Beijing and 1 week in Chengde, I stayed at a homestay the whole time.
The quality of the classes there are amazing, I did both group and individual classes and although the group classes are definitely more fun I would advise doing some individual classes as well because the pace is much faster and you can cover a lot more material.
The homestays were great, the people I stayed with at both locations were very friendly and completely understand that there's a language barrier so you don't have to worry about being embarrassed if you don't understand something or know how to say something. The food at the homestays was also great, I have no special dietary requirements so it was very easy for the homestays to accommodate me, however they do make sure that you're not allergic to anything on the first day.If you feel confident enough to stay in a homestay then I recommend them over the apartments, you'll end up speaking far more Chinese and they're actually quite fun (also, remember to bring your own towel).
The school organises multiple outings throughout the week that allow you to go to some interesting(and relatively inexpensive) restaurants and also to go see some of the attractions around Beijing. I can't really attest to the activities organised in Chengde because I was only there for 6 days and didn't have the time to go to any.
Overall, my time there was very enjoyable, my Chinese improved a huge amount for only being there 3 weeks and I plan on going back next summer if I have the time.

I spent four weeks studying with LTL as part of a four months backpacking trip through Asia and it was the best part of the whole trip. Living with a Chinese family and learning Chinese gave me a lot more insights into Chinese culture than I had in other countries, even though Chinese culture was probably the most "different" of all the countries I visited.
It was also an amazing experience, to see how a Chinese family lives, thinks, plans and (most importantly) eats.
This is something that I would have not dared to organize myself, but with LTL everything worked very smoothly. The homestay family was safe, clean, friendly, nice and very welcoming, the Chinese classes fun and the daily support extraordinary. The general atmosphere at the school is very relaxed as well, which made making friends very easy.
I am thinking about taking up Mandarin at university next year and will for sure be back in Beijing, if possible at all, studying again at LTL, it is a great program.

I am currently on a gap year before starting university this fall. As part of my around the world trip, I spent four weeks studying Mandarin with LTL in Beijing. It was an experience I would highly recommend to anyone. While I am of course far from fluent after four weeks, I did learn quite a bit and enjoyed it a lot. I am currently thinking about changing my major to Chinese studies, it is a fascinating language and culture.
I think LTL had a lot to do with me enjoying my time in Beijing so much, it is a great community, the support staff is very helpful and I made a lot of friends there very quickly.
So far studying Chinese has been the highlight of my trip.

I am just about to finish a two months Chinese language program/homestay program with LTL in Beijing.
It was my first trip to China and only knew very basic Mandarin, so I was a bit nervous especially about living with a Chinese family before going there.
Overall I was quite pleasantly surprised once I got to Beijing. It is a huge city and while very few people speak English, I found the Chinese are very helpful and friendly towards foreigners.
The part of the program I enjoyed the most was my homestay family. I am living with a couple in their late 50s who kind of took me in as their "temporarily adopted son". I go shopping with my host mom regularly, drinking with my host dad, and on the weekends they take me around Beijing. The food was very good and very plentiful - as a result I unfortunately did put on a bit of weight. I will miss them a lot once I leave.
The Mandarin classes at LTL are fun and the teachers are good at getting students ahead quickly. I had taken one course in Mandarin before coming here, but I would say the teaching quality at LTL is a lot higher than what is offered at my university back home. My Chinese character teacher for the first time properly explained to me the radical system and how Chinese characters are formed, which made learning them a lot easier. Without her, I still would be barely able to write my name in Chinese. The classes for spoken Chinese are equally good for grammar and I especially like that the topics are usually very relevant to my daily life. I end up using most of the things we learn during class almost the same day either outside the school or with my homestay family.
LTL as an organization is very well organized, has a very international student community, and the team is both friendly and supportive.
I enjoyed my time at LTL a lot and hope to be able to go again after graduation in two years, I hope then for a longer period of time.
