RCDP International Volunteer Abroad

The volunteering part was a good learning experience for me as the children in the orphanage couldn't communicate in English and we had to find other ways to communicate. The kids were very active and playful, and I had a good time with them in the orphanage.
Accommodation was good as well. The food was delicious, the host family was nice, and the place we stayed at was superb.
The sightseeing part gave me a chance to learn more about the history of the country. The sites in Galle, Kandy, Sigiriya were amazing.
Overall, it was a good experience for me and I really enjoyed the trip.

Very meaningful experience, cultivate my strong sense of promoting the local life standard and fulfill the people's need. Really a bridge to pass love such as the orphanage project and teenage girls teaching plan. Exactly an unforgettable memory in my life.

For the volunteering part, the accommodation during volunteering period is really good among the local accommodation, and the host families are very friendly. Also, the coordinator is really nice and helpful. More, the orphanage and the probation center is the place in which I really want to do some service work. We really have a great time and bring something useful for them. For the sightseeing part, Sri Lanka is fruitful of nice tourist spots. We went to so many wonderful place such as Galle fort Sigiriya rock and temple of the tooth. I recommend the trip wholeheartedly.

Global Crossroad

Hi there I am Chris from Hong Kong. I am a graduating college student looking for a 2-week volunteer program away from my city.
Having an entirely different culture from my own, Sri Lanka has a lot to offer. However, it can also be difficult to navigate and live in this country. Michael has been supportive from the very beginning of my application to the end of my journey. His family is passionate and warm, ensuring a pleasant stay for me. He has been enthusiastic in talking to us volunteers, sharing useful travel tips for us, and at the same time talk to us like a friend. He knows his country and culture very well that we can always seek him for help. Overall, it has been a wonderful journey and to leave Michael's family and this country were very difficult.

The programme I joined planned to teach in orphanage and teenage girls' home. I think it is meaningful to join this programme. Although the language barrier and cultural differences make teaching really difficult there, I did feel proud to at least make them happy during the whole process. They treasured our visit to them as this gives them opportunities to know more about the outside world. Also, I think it is interesting to live in a host family. I could understand more about the local culture and communicate with the local family. I think Michael, my host, is considerate and helpful. His arrangement and accommodation are nice. And he is always willing to give advice to our plans and needs.

I have stayed in Sri Lanka for 10 days and it is certainly a rewarding experience. The host family is very friendly, which gives us plenty of information about Sri Lanka. The meals provided are nice too. The project I carried out focus on orphans and teenage girls. For me, it is an unforgettable experience because I don't have much chance to help them in my home city. Overall, both the project and host family are nice and I would recommend other volunteers to join.

I volunteered in Sri Lanka teaching English to some orphans and teenage girls. It was my first time volunteering abroad, and while my family and I had hesitation at first, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and meaningful.

I stayed with my host Michael and his family, who were always there to help and answer our questions and doubts. They took care of everything for us from meals to traveling around, and helped us plan our volunteer work and journey with much patience and kindness.

I also had the chance to meet other volunteers from Canada, France and Hong Kong, and we all spent our time in Sri Lanka as if we were members of Michael's extended family. I was glad to have fun with the orphans and teenage girls, and it was fulfilling to see them learn while we learnt from them as well.

I have joined the one-week program offered by RCDP. We have gone to the orphanage and Senehasa Home In Galle of Sri Lanka. The coordinator has provided a lot of support to us. The home stay in coordinator's home was a good opportunity to immerse into the lives of Sri Lankan. Overall, it was a great experience.

Institute for Field Research Expeditions - IFRE

I opted for the program, 'Teaching Monks spoken English'. The local coordinator (Michael Noel Ferreira, noelmf@sltnet.lk) personally contacted me 10 days before my departure date and sent me details on email and pictures, to ensure I had advance knowledge of the program. I had never been to Srilanka, but the Local Hosts (again, Michael Ferreira), made me feel right at home and most welcomed. He made sure to brief me on how to proceed with the different levels of Monks, and basically also how to run a class room. Additonally, Michael made sure I was comfortable walking in the beachsise locality and gave excellent advise on how to spend my free time (tourist expeditions). My trip to Srilanka was not just made memorable, it was also made honorable with the help of this program. Srilanka has proven to be one of the most friendliest places to visit, and I would highly recommend the volunteerig and local-living experience.
