International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

I volunteered on the animal care programme where I was in a no kill animal shelter for 2 weeks, helping to look after the dogs and cats. My experience was nothing but positive and I had the time of my life, I would do it all over again if I could! There was a perfect balance between volunteering and having free time in the afternoons and evenings, and on the weekends.
The programme fee was very affordable and was worth it for the standard of the accommodation and food provided. The staff at the hostel were very lovely and welcoming.
The support prior to my programme was outstanding where my programme manager (Charlotte Very) was able to answer any questions I had in great detail, despite her being located at the headquarters in New Zealand and myself living in the UK.
I cannot recommend IVHQ and the programme itself enough - it was amazing!

ELIabroad Experiential Learning International

I had a horrible experience with this company and trying to get support while abroad. They just care about the money and getting paid. Once you pay them, they will provide no support at all and let you deal with any issues while abroad, which can be terrifying when you're in a new country with its own culture and language. They will keep redirecting you to another source for help, going in circles, leaving you without any help abroad. This is a horrible experience for anyone who is new to a country and was hoping for a fun, eye-opening experience.

The programs are overpriced and not worth the money.

I believe the CEO is Kevin O'Neill, who is a liar and a thief. He will provide no help at all. He will change the terms and blame the situation on you, on your timing in reporting any issues as a reason to not provide help. Kevin O'Neill is manipulative and unethical. He will respond with petty lies, twisting your account of the situation to avoid accountability. He will put words in your mouth that you never said, confusing the situation even more and try to make you look like the idiot. Most stubborn, toxic person ever.

GeoVisions

I paid for Geovisions' Tutor a Host Family Abroad - Spain program. They failed to find a host family for tutoring and instead matched me with a family that needed an au pair. There were so many red flags during the host interview - from the family telling me I would need to attend mass and pray with them (I'm not Catholic) to them trying to dictate how I dress and what I eat (they wouldn't accommodate my dietary restrictions even though they're supposed to). I expressed my concerns with Geovisions and refused the match for obvious reasons. I tried to be flexible as they stressed I needed to be to find a match, but after over 6 months of no match I finally left the program and requested a refund since I paid over 1000 USD. Geovisions refused to refund me the very expensive fee I paid because I turned down a family with no regard to my personal safety. Everyone from the coordinator to the cofounder stated that since I refused a match they would be keeping my money. An organization that can't own up to its mistakes and doesn't value participants' safety is not one that I would trust with my life while living abroad. I won't be applying to them ever again.

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

I can not recommend IVHQ enough! They are absolutely amazing! They even waited well past midnight to pick me up from the airport when my flight arrived way later than expected. On top of that, I felt like I was making a true difference whilst I was there. I completely fell in love with the people and culture of Cambodia (which wasn’t difficult at all!) I had weekends off and fully reserved those days for allowing myself to experience everything Siem Reap had to offer. My kids that I taught in Cambodia were unlike anyone I had ever met. They were driven, eager, loving and so willing to learn! I leave you with this to avoid writing a whole novel: volunteer with IVHQ I felt safe, valued and like I was making a real difference. Get out there and see our big beautiful world!
