Global Learning Semesters

I was a part of the Summer in Cyprus:Custom program, which some might not think of as ideal because there is no out of country travel included, but there is more than enough opportunities for foreign travel so long as money permits.
The classes that were available consisted of classes that were required for my University, which worked out perfectly. I had no problem transferring the credits back either.
All in all, I absolutely had the time of my life in Cyprus and would recommend this program to anyone looking for a unique study abroad experience.

My experience with GLS was nothing less than amazing! I got to live with two fabulous girls in a great apartment right in the middle of the city! The best part about the program was being able to do your own thing, there were planned excursions, but you also had a lot of time to go off and explore on your own without feeling like someone was holding your hand the whole timet!

Can you tell me where your apartment was located, and can you request a particular apt. or area?

I thought that everyone who worked for GLS was extremely helpful! I always had questions answered very promptly, which was wonderful. The challenge for me was not the program itself, but more so the students in the program and the housing situation. In the end the enforcement of rules that was done was better, but in general I felt as if most people were there to party and not to learn academically or culturally. I know that we are supposed to be old enough to take care of ourselves and practice responsibility, but many on my trip were not and I think should possibly even have been sent home. I think it would be very helpful to do some kind of roommate questionnaire so that say the people who would rather go to be at a reasonable time and sleep through the night can live somewhere and the people who want to get drunk every night can live somewhere else. I also think it would have been helpful to know the financial situation that we were coming into such as the outrageously high exchange rate! I know I could have checked this out on my own, but it would have been helpful if it were prompted.

One of the reasons I chose GLS was the independence. They offered a lot of help and support and some guidance, but for the most part we were allowed to do our own thing! The other students in the program were a lot of fun! Because of the independence of program and that we were in student housing with many other students from all over we were able to get to know a lot of other people outside of the program, and that was a great experience!
