The two months I spent in Kenya was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. IVHQ's program was very well run, with their partner organization in Kenya, MEAC, providing for my needs during my stay. All of the host families treated the volunteers as though they were a part of their own families. Also, while I was there, Daniel, the director of IVHQ, was very helpful from their home base in New Zealand, promptly answering any questions and concerns I had and dealing with their partner organization effectively. I would highly recommend IVHQ to anyone looking to volunteer abroad.

just finished up in kenya. only complaint is the slow internet speed! everything else gone great. home stay did not have running water for 3 nights out of the 3 weeks i've been here which was annoying but in a developing country that is to be expected. orphanage and the kids has been my highlight. before i got here i was worried there would be no other volunteers but i have met a lot of really nice people from around the world. ivhq having a big program (lots of volunteers and placements) is another big benefit of going with. the price (cheapest i found in an international volunteer organization) was quite low which made it nice as well.

I taught English through IVHQ in Chiang Rai, Thailand and it was one of my most memorable experiences of my life. I'll admit I had heard second hand terrible stories from people that volunteered with other companies so was a bit nervous before I went but to future volunteers - don't be. IVHQ do an outstanding job ensuring local staff are right (for the Thailand project anyway) and my project was incredible. Blanche (my program coordinator at ivhq) answered all my questions promptly before I left which was reassuring and never did I feel unsafe (which was another of my concerns before I left). I agree with the girl below who said if you could give this experience an 11 I would. If you are considering it - do it. You will not regret it.

My cousin and I are planning to go to Chiang Rai this December, so this is great to hear! We're so excited. Question: did you have power? We were wondering if there would be a way to charge our cameras :) Thanks!

I volunteered with the healthcare in San Jose. IVHQ paired me up with the company Maximo Nivel. I was very pleased with both organizaitons. Everyone was professional and courteous.

hi i'm a doctor and want to goto costa rica or peru with IVHQ. what kind of medical work did you do there? thanks
did u take a laptop or phone- how close were you to amenities?

Excellent and prompt support system in place. Both before and during volunteer stint. Queries usually answered within a day (even Sundays). Hosts were very friendly and flexible with programme. Takes care to attend to the wellbeing of volunteers e.g. offering extra blankets, helping arrange R&R activities.
