Discover Corps trip to the Dominican Republic, was life changing! Getting to be apart of such a great program that benefits not only the people of DR, but myself as well. Our group was small and it worked out in our favor! Scott our group leader was awesome! He was so informative, easy to get along with, and overall fantastic, couldn't have ask for a better leader. The program was organized and accurate on each daily activity. 8 days full of projects that were amazing, from building a home for a family out of discarded plastic bottles, to visiting a chocolate factory.. there were many fun experiences on this trip I can't pick a specific one. Overall great program and I'm definitely going to be participating in another.

Our family (2 parents, and kids ages 10 and 12) participated in Discover Corps in the Dominican Republic in late March 2016. Our experience was simply wonderful. We loved everything about this trip: the beautiful setting, the projects we worked on, and getting to know the other people on the trip. Members of the staff were very knowledgeable, kind and fun. They were eager to teach us about the Dominican Republic and its history. The opportunity for our family to work alongside others on meaningful projects in a Dominican village was priceless. Our accommodations were comfortable and the food was delicious. In short, we HIGHLY recommend Discover Corps.
Review of the Costa Rica Sea Turtle Initiative:
This was a simply amazing and unforgettable experience. We got to volunteer with a non-profit that does fascinating work helping to preserve the sea turtle population in that part of the world, we got to see this beautiful country and its warm and friendly people, and have fun adventures like fishing in a mangrove, zip lining, horseback riding, and going to a gorgeous resort and covering ourselves with skin-enriching mud before taking a refreshing swim! My favorite moment was watching the baby sea turtles confusedly and *very* slowly make their way to their vast new home--the ocean--with us watching over them ensuring this first journey of their lives is a safe one. My second favorite was jumping over waves in the ocean when it started raining, and joyously running back to shelter with my fellow travelers. A truly magical experience.
I am so glad that my husband and I used Discover Corps for volunteer travel. I had been wanting to take a trip like this for a long time. I love to travel but I longed for the "real" experience beyond cookie cutter tourist attractions. The best part was doing something to positively impact someone's life.
The Discover Corps team made me feel that I was being taken care of from the very beginning. Jasmine was extremely helpful and informative throughout the predeparture process. Our group leaders in the DR were extremely knowledgable. We learned a lot, helped those in need, and had some fun, too! I think it can be a great bonding experience for friends, families, and couples. Upon my return home, I feel more grateful than ever for all of my blessings.
I highly recommend this trip to any and everyone! Words cannot express how much we loved it!
Since college, I have had it on my bucket list to take my family on a humanitarian vacation. This year we were finally able to realize that dream. I have six children- the youngest is five and the oldest is 17. We used our holiday break to go to the Dominican republic on their next step travel program. It was an amazing experience for all. We had some concerns. Number one: some of our children were Very young and none of them had done any real travel abroad. One of my sons has some major food aversions. None of us knew the language Beyond a couple of years of high school Spanish. But we set our worries aside and jumped in and I will always treasure the things that we learned and the fun that we had on this trip.
All of my teenagers came home so grateful for the experience. They learned a lot about what life is like in other cultures and in poverty. They learned more about the environment, more about hard work, more about service, more about friendship. The language barrier did not stop any of them from building friendships while they were there. One of my fondest memories of the trip is watching my five-year-old jabber 1,000,000 miles an hour to a little girl who understood not a word. They still joined hands and spent the day coloring together while we worked on one of the school projects. Another precious moment was celebrating New Year's eve with some of the local families near the eco-lodge. My girls We danced the merengue with a young deaf man who worked at the little "store"- it was a true delight!
All of the people with Discover Corps were amazing. From booking the trip, making payments, filling out forms, actual traveling, the meal preparation, the room service, the bus driving, the outings and especially the work projects- every step of the way was tended to perfectly. All of them took special care to make it a great experience for my children.
I cannot say enough about the value of the Trip and what a priceless experience it was for our family!!
