In my second year of college, my best friend and I volunteered/ interned abroad in Ayacucho, Peru through Cross Cultural Solutions. We wanted to find a great location and a program that offered a total package along with the volunteering program itself. Cross Cultural Solutions not only provided a great volunteering environment, but it offered a great place to live, meals, weekend trips, language classes and tours of the country to help one understand the culture. The Cross Cultural Solutions staff were the best. They were very helpful, welcoming and never made anyone feel unsafe. What made my volunteering experience outstanding is that everyday I went out and volunteered, I felt apart of the community as oppose to being a visitor. If your looking for a program that is fun and offers a realm of an overall great volunteering experience, let me save research time and tell you that Cross Cultural Solutions is the way to go.

If you are interested in volunteering abroad, I HIGHLY recommend CCS!! I spent two weeks volunteering with them in Peru and absolutely loved every minute of it! They do a great job of balancing time volunteering, cultural activities, and free time. The volunteer work is meaningful and you really get to emerge yourself in a new culture. You will leave with a broader world view :) The staff (both in the central office and in site staff at your country) are so welcoming and helpful, and everything is very organized! It's so easy and you're supported along every step of your journey! Already looking forward to my next trip with CCS! :)

My time in Cartago, Costa Rica with CCS will forever remain with me. They give back to the carefully chosen volunteer sites in so many ways and it felt great to be a part of that! Local people I had never met before recognized us as CCS volunteers on the street one day and pointed us out to their friends with a fondness that was so sweet and such a surprise.
I wouldn't have changed a thing, not even when something was not what I expected, because after all isn't that what life's about, experiencing new things, growing and adapting? I think I found a more adventurous spirit within myself and definitely learned a lot by the end of my 2 week stay there.
I couldn't have asked for a better team of staff! Loved the food, the way everything was thought of for us, and the excursions and dance classes. I felt great walking around Cartago almost every day and had the pleasure of being part of the local crowd at the Ruins during the holiday of Dia de las Madres (Mother's day), watching the live band and dancing going on. Back at home base the staff even presented a special lunch and the mothers with roses, with extra for anyone else.
I adored the kids at my volunteer assignment. I still think about them and never really felt like I was at work when I was there; I wanted to be there every day to see their little faces light up and beg to play.In addition to my daycare, I also visited a second daycare and an orphanage on two days that mine was closed. Each has a different dynamic but in the end they are the same. The kids in all of the sites benefit from care and learning.
Weekends were free time. I miss being exhilarated by the crisp air, the clouds we drove through, the waterfalls we rappelled down, the canopy we zip-lined through, the volcanos that soar and smoke, the people's welcome and the culture; I could go on and on and I'll definitely go back.
This experience made CCS the organization I would choose to do my future volunteering for sure, wherever it may take me.

CCS is truly an amazing program to volunteer with! They successfully combine volunteering with tourism and free time. You truly feel like you are living in the country you choose. I went to Cape Town, South Africa and literally had the time of my life. The food, the people and the music was nothing short of amazing. I received so much love in Cape Town and there was never a time when I didn't feel safe. I have so many great memories from CCS Cape Town that I will never forget. I recommend traveling with Cross-Cultural Solutions!
