Volunteering with African Impact is the best thing I have ever done and I can't wait to go back as soon as possible! The projects are organised really well, they keep you busy when you are there but thats the whole reason of volunteering right? Sustainability is really important to African Impact and thats clear in each project I was involved in. The more you put in to the projects the more you get out, thee most rewarding thing I've ever done.
Monday to Friday you're busy on projects from 8:30am till around 4pm, coming home for a delicious cooked lunch in between. In your spare time you get to see more of this beautiful part of the world and get to make friends for life with the other wonderful volunteers and the AMAZING African Impact staff.
The co-ordinators and other staff members are just brilliant, a total inspiration and are always there when you need them. The house where you stay is really lovely and the meals the zulu ladies cook are DELICIOUS!
Volunteering with African Impact is a fantastic experience, you get to see a different part of the world, immerse yourself in a different culture, help those less fortunate than you and develop yourself as person as a result.

I volunteered in South Africa for 5 weeks on the Medical Outreach and HIV/AIDS awareness project and I can say without a doubt, it far exceeded all my expectations. I did many months of research and knew I wanted a project that there would be variation, support from staff and an enriching experience where I could, hopefully, make a difference in the lives of others.. even just one life. I went with AI in St. Lucia because the projects available seemed to offer that variation during each day and the St. Lucia location of being in a small resort area near the Indian Ocean seemed ideal. Having just retired I was a bit apprehensive knowing I would be a older volunteer but the staff and other volunteers made me feel one of them from day one... I made friends for life. The staff was incredible and offered us support every day, all day. Our days were planned well and we participated in a planning afternoon every Monday. I worked in the clinic providing intake, assisted families in their homes, provided Home Based Care for those who were sick, worked with great kids at the Reading Club, met some incredible women at the support groups and even weeded gardens and planted and watered the gardens, The children of the villages we worked in touched me deeply, they were loving, happy and expressive. The adults were just as giving and loving, I have never met more gracious people anywhere. On weekends I went to Safari, walked to the beach near our house, hung out in the small coffee shop or did a bit of shopping in town which was a 5 minute walk from the house. In the evening you can either stay in and read or a group of us would go into town for dinner. I will always hold a special place for St. Lucia in my heart and would go back, no question, I highly recommend this organization for anyone who really does want to make a difference. Thanks Malinda for such a great testimonial, you certainly made a big difference on the St Lucia project and we're glad you'll be back! Link to your blog: http://mztravelspots.simplesite.com/ Regards, The African Impact Team

I spent 3 months on the medical project in St Lucia and I would definitely recommend it! I absolutely loved it! The staff are so friendly and welcoming and are always there if you need help or you're not sure about something. The projects themselves are so fulfilling, whether its reading a book with a child or providing them with nutritional Epap, you can see the differences you are making. The people out in the communities are so loving and welcoming, they take you into their homes where they have nothing and still they want to offer you food for helping them out. The volunteer house is very nice and is situated in a nice town, you do have to share rooms but you get used to it very quickly. The food is very nice and is on a three week rotational menu, you only eat Zulu cuisine once a week and its actually quite tasty. If you're thinking about volunteering you should definitely do it, this organisation is amazing and the links they hold within they community make everything worthwhile. The experiences I had with African Impact I will never forget, the patients I made very strong bonds with, the children I fell in love with and the staff who became my family. It will always hold a very strong place in my heart.

I spent two weeks volunteering on the Community Project in St Lucia and found it to be an incredible experience! The staff were all amazing, informative and supportive and all clearly had experience and expertise as to the projects and the communities that they worked in. The volunteer house was brilliant: comfy beds, good showers, spacious community areas and amazing food cooked by one of the Zulu ladies. I thoroughly enjoyed every project that I was placed on and feel that the staff were very good at ensuring that everyone participated in activities that they wanted to be involved in. It is obvious that African Impact makes a huge difference to the communities that they work in and that they are really appreciated and respected by the locals. The staff should be congratulated on the professional manner in which they dealt with any issues that arose within the volunteer house- ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of all volunteers was honoured at all times. The projects were very well run and coordinated. I feel that I did make a difference whilst out in St Lucia and saw visible benefits of the volunteers' hard work. I would 100% recommend African Impact to anyone looking to volunteer! Thank you for a great time!

I spent 2 weeks volunteering for African Impact in St Lucia, South Africa on their Community Project and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! The volunteer house was brilliant and comfortable - absolute luxury compared to some places I have stayed in other parts of Africa where we had cold outdoor showers, long drop toilets and no electricity. The food was great - always enough, extremely varied (definitely not just rice and veg) and able to cater for a whole range of dietary requirements including one fellow volunteer who was both a vegan and ate Kosher! The staff were always very friendly, supportive and knowledgeable as were the other volunteers. The project itself was wonderful because we got to do a whole range of things that not only took into account an individual's skills but allowed them to develop new ones. For example, I never thought I would be able to make concrete and bricks by hand, and now I can! I loved being able to get to know members of the community and the gratitude they showed us for something as simple as weeding their garden was humbling. I truly believe that all the African Impact projects in St Lucia are making a difference in the surrounding communities and I would thoroughly recommend African Impact to anyone, regardless of age or skill. The only thing I would say is that 2 weeks is definitely not long enough!
