International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

I was with IVHQ for two weeks involved with the wild elephant conservation program in Sri Lanka. I was concerned that my night arrival into the country would affect the volunteering program, but the local staff was not only patient but also approachable, informative, and helpful in answering any questions and concerns we had.

The orientation program was excellent in engaging us with the local culture and lifestyle; this was supplemented with local foods for virtually every meal during my stay! While the staff respected our freedom to do what we wanted, there was also a large emphasis on the safety and livelihood of the volunteers, something I very much appreciated and am sure family members of other volunteers did as well.

If it was not for this program I would not have been able to experience the local lifestyle and appreciate the Sri Lankan culture. For those seeking a local experience in Sri Lanka, I could not recommend IVHQ enough.

Forum Nexus

I had the time of my life studying abroad for 5 weeks with Forum-Nexus! We toured to so many iconic destinations, historical landmarks and beautiful countries in such a short period of time. There was always something to do and see every day, and there was never a dull moment during the entire trip. The staff and Hugo were full of infectious energy all the time and they were incredibly helpful with everything leading up to and throughout the program. The entire program was very organized and safe, and overall very well put together. Forum-Nexus offers something for everyone interested. The classes were all extremely interesting and relevant, and the professors were very engaged. What you learn in the classroom carries into where you’re touring that day and the professional and cultural visits were all incredible and a unique aspect to Forum-Nexus. I met some of the best people on this trip and I had so much fun every single day. This program is truly one of a kind and it was absolutely amazing. Be prepared to dance and sing every day and have the time of your life with Forum-Nexus! I really couldn’t recommend this program enough!

Projects Abroad

Last year was the first time I had been overseas by myself before. It was one of the most exciting and scary experiences I have had. Projects Abroad made my time in Samoa so much easier. I had 24/7 support from the friendly staff. It was my first time in Samoa and the team did such a wonderful job at helping me settle in and find my way around a place I now call my second home.

I volunteered in a primary school teaching school sports and it was so rewarding. The children were so appreciative of my efforts and were always so much fun to be around. They would run around, kicking a ball in the dirt and not care how dirty they got. Despite the language barrier, we still managed to communicate the best we could and they seemed to understand the majority of what I was saying, along with some demonstrations. They were bright children and helped make my time teaching so enjoyable.

My host family were the most beautiful family. They welcomed me with open arms and comforted me on my first night when I became overwhelmed.
Every night, rather than watching TV, we would sit outside and play cards (mostly UNO), listen to music and talk and laugh and till it was almost morning. With out my host family, I don't think I would have coped as well as I did.

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer in Sri Lanka with IVHQ. From the moment I began my application, I felt incredibly supported by the IVHQ staff and knew I would be in good hands once arriving in a foreign country. As a solo volunteer traveling from the U.S., I was nervous and had many questions before the trip. The IVHQ staff were more than helpful in answering my questions and easing my worries. The program itself was wonderful. I stayed in a home with a lovely Sri Lankan family and 6 other volunteers. The home was basic but comfortable and clean. I felt as I was getting the authentic experience, which is exactly what I wanted. My program was teaching English in a local pre-school. This experience was also positive, and I really enjoyed the children and the teachers of the school. It was not always easy as the language barrier did make it difficult to communicate with the kids, but overall I felt like I was applying my teaching skills in a meaningful way. I still keep in touch with the teachers, the other volunteers, and the family I lived with. Sri Lanka will always have a special place in my heart, and I look back on this experience fondly. I highly recommend IVHQ for those considering volunteer projects abroad.

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

IVHQ was very helpful in my recent volunteer trip to Nepal. I am originally from Nepal but have been living in the States for a while now. Going back to the country where I am from was a great experience and the fact that I could make a small difference meant a lot to me. I was in the teaching English program in Pokhara and the school where I worked really tried to use me to the best of their abilities. I can speak fluent Nepali so that was really helpful for communication and IVHQ r ally took that into account when trying to find me a placement. The local staff that they had was super helpful and the home stay itself was comfortable. The cost was a little expensive but if you can stay for a few weeks, they get less and less. Overall I had a great experience and will go on another volunteer trip with IVHQ in the future.
