I volunteered teaching in the slums of India with IVHQ, it was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it. I was placed with a local family who treated like me like my own family. Always looking out for me and making sure I was conformable. One thing that really stood out for me was their willingness to support you in way they could. I brought money with me I raised back home. They helped me find ways to use the money to provide those in need. They made the arrangements necessary and provided amazing logistical support. These are things up and beyond their responsibility. They truly made my experience the best it could be. I will certainly will go back there next time I volunteer in India.

The IVHQ staff was also amazing. They visit me every week to make sure I was okay. They always made sure I was getting the most out my volunteering experience.

Without a doubt, I will continue volunteering and will use IVHQ again.

When choosing to volunteer in India I had two things in mind. The first one was the program that I would be participating in for an entire month. As a pre-Medicine student I wanted to do something that I will learn from, and the healthcare program has exceptionally exceeded my expectations. I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from the doctors, patients, and my peer volunteers. The second thing I had in mind was my host family, the strangers that will become my family one long month. I was fortunate enough to be placed with the most welcoming, humble, funny, caring and kind family that I have ever met before. From the first day I arrived at Chandni and Mohit's house, I felt like I have knows them forever. Chandni and Mohit were exceptionally amazing, from making sure that I was adjusting to this new country, to providing me important informations, they were beyond helpful. My placement site was a little far from the house, but Mohit made sure that I had a ride to and from my placement site each and every single day. He would ask me how my placement was going, and if there were any problems. I have met a couple of the local IVHQ coordinators, but no one compares to the work and effort Mohit and Chandni put to make sure that the volunteers are satisfied with their stay. My Indian experience would have been extremely tough without the help of Mohit's and Chandni's extraordinary hospitality. My placement site and the amazing host family I had has exceeded my expectations about my Indian trip. I will forever remember you Mohit, Chandni, and the rest of your family. Thank you so much for being the best host family I could ever imagine to have. Mohit and Chandni are the best staff members IVHQ can ever have

Hi there, Thank you for choosing to volunteer on the Healthcare project in India. We are so thrilled to hear about the hospitality, care and support that Mohit and Chandni provided to you – we will be sure to pass your kind words on to them. Thanks for being an IVHQer!

Honestly, this experience was even more rewarding than I could have ever hoped. Everything was spectacular from day one! Applying was easy and I met so many likeminded and wonderful people who I'm so happy to call my friends. The school I worked in was amazing and I was inspired every day by the children I got to teach. In fact, every person I met in this wonder of a country was beyond incredible; they are the nicest and most accommodating people I've ever encountered. I feel honoured to have met them. I could not have asked for a more exceptional host family, I have no doubt that they made this trip better than it otherwise could have been. They welcomed us with open arms and we instantly felt like part of the family! Chandni, Mohit, Raj and Aryan created a fun and caring environment full of laughter and went above and beyond to help us with everything. Without them, organising weekend travel to other cities would have been so painful. They are beautiful, kind, lively people and I'm going to miss them so much! Volunteering through IVHQ was the best decision I've made to date and I'm already planning my next trip.

Hi Izzy, It's nice to hear from you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your time in India with IVHQ. We are glad that you had such a positive experience volunteering and that you felt supported by your host family and our local team in Delhi. Thanks for being an IVHQer!

Volunteering in India with IVHQ was the best experience I've had my whole life. I loved going to my school everyday and teaching the children. We got to experience true Indian culture in the best way possible which is what you want coming on a trip like this. My host family were amazing, I had so much fun staying with them and they were very welcoming and made me feel very at home and so comfortable. Travelling on the weekends was made super easy to organise with the support of our host family. We had 24/7 support with anything we needed which was very comforting.

Hi Steph, Thanks for your feedback. It is great to hear that you had such a positive experience volunteering in India. Thanks for being an IVHQer!

I spent 6 weeks volunteering in China, working 2 weeks in a disability centre in Xi’an and the other 4, teaching in the city of Weinan.

David Zhou runs the program in China and I cannot stress enough how great he is as a program leader. Even before I arrived in China, David was always on hand to answer any questions or concerns that I had. This did not stop once I arrived either. Whether helping other volunteers to arrange post placement travel plans, recommending food to try, or helping us when we got lost, he always had time. As did his family. If you’re fortunate enough to stay at the home base in Xi’an, like I did for the first two weeks of my placement and every weekend thereafter, you’ll be welcomed with open arms from David and his family.

As you are pretty much given free reign in the placements, it can be difficult to know what to teach, what to include in lessons and how to get everyone involved. Whatever programme you opt for however, the support you will receive from the people around you is second to none, provided you’re not afraid to ask for help or guidance. The kids I worked with were extremely curious and sometimes a little shy, but all of them loved playing games and having fun. It was often a case of trial and error, but the kids enthusiasm and excitement at having you there definitely made teaching one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

It’s also quite difficult to sum up just how good the food in China is. Whether eating in the Muslim Quarter or dining at Jim’s (Ask David to take you), China knows how to turn ordinary food into something that’s unforgettable. It can however, take some getting used to. Food in the homestay is basic but lovely, and for the best Chinese dumplings in the whole of China, you need not leave the homestay.

All in all, I would certainly recommend the IVHQ China programme. It could be one of the most rewarding things you ever do!

Hi Amy, thanks for your feedback. It's great to hear about your experience in China and we are glad that you felt supported by IVHQ and by our local team in Xi'an. Very jealous of the dumplings! Thanks for being an IVHQer and we hope to see you on another program soon.
